Shayne O’Neill came down to Durham from his new home in BK, NY to preview some new material from his forthcoming album and long-awaited split EP with the Never as well as play some old songs. Check out the video below of the three-person version of the Future Kings of Nowhere playing some new and old tracks (this is also the second time “Paper Napkins” has appeared in video form on this blog.)

Music Updates: Troika 2009 Line-Up and Hear Here

Two major updates in the local music scene we’re a bit late on:

1. The bands for Troika 2009, set for November 5-7, have been announced and the list is amazing, including Bowerbirds, Hammer No More the Fingers, Embarrassing Fruits, Bellafea, Pink Flag, the Future Kings of Nowhere and many many more. Check out the full list here.

2. Flying Tiger Sounds, WKNC and Terpsikhore Records are releasing a compilation of 18 Triangle bands benefiting The Visual Exchange. The album, entitled Hear Here: The Triangle, will have an official release Aug. 29 at the Cat’s Cradle with performances by Hammer No More the Fingers, Annuals, Birds of Avalon and the Never. Other contributing bands include the Rosebuds, the Beast, the Love Language, Americans in Paris, Kooley High and the Old Ceremony.

Club Is Open 2009 Schedule Announced

Chapel Hill’s second annual The Club Is Open Festival released its schedule earlier today. The festival celebrates local music, offering four days of great shows in what is often a quieter summer concert schedule with so many large acts hitting up the festival circuit. This year’s festival (July 7-11) includes almost 20 bands (among them Future Kings of Nowhere, Hammer No More the Fingers and Red Collar) and includes five Chapel Hill venues. Proceeds from all shows go to cytunes.org and the Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke.
