In regard to the Duke Performances story, Director Aaron Greenwald mentioned a two-part video that he said, in many ways, was a source of inspiration for the 2009-10 programming. Duke Performances has just released its schedule for the 2009-2010 academic calendar. The season incorporates 10 thematic series (By the River, This House on Fire, With These Hands, Voices Lifted, At the Crossroads, Moved, Piano Recital Series, Duke Artists Series, Ciompi Quartet and Chamber Arts Society) from around the world and commences Sunday, August 30 at 4 p.m. in the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, commemorating their 75th year. Tickets go on sale for all events July 21. For the full listings, check out the dP Web site here. After a successful run last year, Duke Performances is bringing back its summer Music in the Gardens series. Called “Music in the Gardens: Listening Locally,” the series puts the spotlight on “the best forward-thinking art from the state.” This years schedule looks great.

All shows are outside in the Sarah P. Duke Gardens on the lawn behind the Doris Duke Visitor Center (the building by the parking )unless otherwise noted. Food and drink are permitted, and concerts go rain or shine (anyone who was at Portastatic last year should know this). General admission is $10, Duke employees are $5, students and children under 12 are free.
